SOS -Children’s Villages – Tres Rios, San José, Costa Rica

The Museum proudly presents a series of artworks from the SOS Children Village Tres Rios in San José, Costa Rica. The works are made by SOS children aged 7 to 15 years, during a period from 1996-98, and is a result of a prolific partnership over several years between the SOS Childrens Villages and The International Museum of Children’s Art, where artistic expression often is used as therapy. The Museum’s founders, doctor Alla Goldin (1938 –2007) and film maker Rafael Goldin’s (1920 –1994) best friend was the founder of the SOS Children Villages, doctor Herman Gmeiner (1919 –1986), who personally contributed financially with startup funds in the establishment of the Museum. During the 80’s, at the same time as children’s artwork were collected from around the world, four films about familiy life in the Children Villages in four different continents were also produced.
